Not everything that is faced can be changed,
But nothing can be changed until it is faced.
– James Baldwin
Fenton, MI October, 2009:
As bully prevention week nears, Fenton Michigan High School’s advanced drama Play Production Company (PPC) is facing up to bullying, making their statement through a theatrical production called TICKING. TICKING is courageously written by the students under the direction of Lori Thompson. The student’s experiences of being bullied and being the bully have become the scripted word, the thought provoking scenes which depict their world.
The PPC students are committed to bringing this real-life issue to the forefront. This fall they have the opportunity to take their anti-bullying message to each of their fellow high school students and to the public during evening performances on October 8th, 9th, and 24th.
“Bullying, intimidation, and fear have no place in our schools, and I want to thank you for your courage and dedication to creating an awareness of this issue, which affects all of us. I am certain your performances are touching lives and changing attitudes.”

Through TICKING, PPC aims to change the social mind set that turns a blind eye and a deaf ear to bullying. The mind set that says bulling is acceptable. PPC wants all eyes and ears open to the fact that bullying is a real issue experienced daily by children around the world. It is time to change “Beware of the bully” to “Be aware of the bully”. It is time to empower our children with the knowledge that if they have the courage to speak out against the bully they will be heard.
“Psychologists, the media, and various government agencies urge parents to talk to their kids; when kids take the initiative to talk to us about their experience of school violence, we had best take them seriously and listen with big ears.”
